A new study from the UK, just published in the June issue of HEART, shows that participants who ate the most chocolate had a significantly reduced risk of coronary artery disease (11%). Even better, they were 25% less likely to die of cardio-vascular disease compared to non chocolate eaters. Those who consumed the most chocolate were also reduced their risk of stroke by 23%.

Over the past few years we've seen several reports of health benefits associated with dark chocolate. But what's really interesting about this study is that the participants actually ate more milk chocolate than dark.! It's not yet know what specific nutrients in the milk chocolate may have conferred the vascular benefits.

The study is a large one, covering 21,9510 adults over nearly a 12 year follow-up. This study comes on the heels of another in which a meta-analysis of nine separate papers covering over 157,809 subjects also showed very similar benefits.

At the very least, these two studies would seem to put to bed, at least for now, the notion that chocolate is somehow bad for your patients. But if you don't agree, just wait a while. Science being what it is, I'm sure we'll see some sort of contradictory evidence in the near future! As for now...Enjoy.
